๐ŸŒฟ Our Model

Proven Innovation.
Global Delivery.

Award-Winning Innovator

Driven by a proven track record in pioneering scalable, circular marine restoration and natural capital frameworks.

Globally Connected

Collaborating with world-class scientific, industrial, and environmental thought leaders to ensure the flawless execution of highly ambitious projects.

A Strategic Invitation

We invite Mitsui Ireland to leverage our validated framework for a targeted feasibility study โ€” minimising risk while exploring Ireland's premier methane-reduction and circular agricultural asset.

The Process

How we turn ocean problems into self-funding solutions

Every Kelp Helpers initiative follows the same four-stage validation model โ€” proven first with KinaKrete, now being repeated across every entity in the portfolio.

1

Identify the Problem

Understand the ecological and economic challenge in depth โ€” what's broken, why it persists, and who's affected.

2

Select the Model

Choose the innovation and business model best placed to relieve the problem at scale, not just patch it.

3

Define & Produce the MVP

Build the minimum viable product or service needed to prove the model works in the real world.

4

Achieve Revenue & Funding

Turn proof-of-concept into a self-sustaining revenue stream that funds the next round of restoration.

Proof of Concept

KinaKrete: from invisible waste to award-winning revenue

Kina shells had no economic value โ€” collecting them cost divers money rather than making it, and the barren crisis itself was out of sight and out of mind for most New Zealanders. KinaKrete solved both problems at once: turning waste shell into concrete and ceramic products that put the story directly into people's hands. The result is no longer a concept โ€” it's an award-winning, revenue-producing business.

๐Ÿ† Award-winning ๐Ÿ’ฐ Revenue-producing โ™ป๏ธ Fully circular
The Solution

A circular economy that heals the ocean

We don't just remove kina โ€” we extract value from them, so the operation can fund itself. Every coaster sold, every tonne of concrete poured, funds the next removal.

Kina Are Removed From Barrens

Trained divers work consented barren areas, collecting excess kina. Each diver removes ~600kg per day.

Waste Becomes Products

Shells and spines go to KiwiKrete (concrete) and Calcara (ceramics). Nothing is wasted โ€” the "problem" becomes the raw material.

Products Generate Revenue

Restoration Coaster Sets, KinaKrete sculptures, ceramic surfaces โ€” each sale directly funds more removals.

Kelp Returns โ€” Naturally

Remove the kina, and kelp comes back on its own within 2 years. No planting needed. The ecosystem heals.

Pingo Maps the Recovery

Autonomous drones track kelp health and generate natural capital data โ€” unlocking biodiversity credit financing at scale.

The Virtuous Cycle

A loop that funds itself

Each stage feeds the next โ€” restoration generates the revenue and data that pays for more restoration.

Across the Portfolio

Every initiative, one problem at a time

Each entity in the Kelp Helpers tree exists to solve a specific problem on the path from barren reef to restored kelp forest โ€” and each has reached a different stage of the process above.

Initiative The Problem It Solves Stage Reached
๐Ÿ—ฟ KiwiKrete Kina shells had no economic value, and the barren crisis was out of sight, out of mind. KiwiKrete turns shell waste into concrete products that fund removals and make the story visible. 4 ยท Revenue & Funding
โ˜• Calcara The ceramics and engineered-stone industry has no ocean-positive material at commercial scale โ€” and crystalline silica stone is being banned outright in some markets. 3 ยท MVP
๐Ÿคฟ Removals Kina removal is expensive and labour-intensive, and barrens return without ongoing management once divers leave. 3 ยท MVP
๐Ÿง Pingo You can't restore โ€” or finance the restoration of โ€” what you can't measure. Mapping kelp forests by hand is too slow and expensive to scale. 2 ยท Model Selection
๐Ÿ„ Seafooโ„ข Global seafood demand keeps stripping already-stressed marine ecosystems, and existing plant-based alternatives don't match the nutrition people actually want. 2 ยท Model Selection
๐Ÿ•น๏ธ Reef Rescue The kelp barren crisis is invisible to most people, and traditional conservation education fails to make a distant ocean problem feel personal. 2 ยท Model Selection
๐ŸŽฏ SeaSniper Spearfishers are some of the most ocean-engaged people alive, yet often target the very apex predators โ€” snapper, crayfish โ€” needed to keep kina in check. 1 ยท Problem ID
๐Ÿ„ Surf Shacks Ocean-positive hospitality barely exists as a category โ€” most coastal accommodation has no link at all to the health of the water out front. 3 ยท MVP
โ›ต Sailing Into Sunset Most people will never dive a kina barren, so the urgency of the crisis never reaches them. Storytelling builds the public connection that funding ultimately depends on. 4 ยท Revenue & Funding
